Germany Trip

Black Forest

On Wednesday May 27th a group of students and teachers from Wexford CBS travelled to Baden-Wurtemmberg in South-West Germany. This is the third year in a row that our students,in conjunction with students and staff from the Loreto Secondary School, have taken part in an exchange with a German secondary school, Sankt Ursula's in Villingen-Schwennigen in the beautiful Black Forest Region.

The students stayed with the families of their exchange partners and for many of our students it was a culture shock! They had to get used to a school day that started at 7.45 am as well as the many types of bread and salami the Germans like to eat, even for breakfast, not to mention the fizzy mineral water which everybody drinks in Germany but which is definitely an acquired taste.

There were some compensations however: school finished every day at lunchtime and on the days when they were not in school the students went on trips. One trip was to the beautiful Lake Constance where they were able to explore the reconstructed dwellings of some of Germany's earliest settlers and,of course, the shops in the city of Constance. Another trip was to the university city of Freiburg where the students had the opportunity to stroll around and absorb the lively  atmosphere.

The group arrived home on Wednesday May 4th exhausted but hopefully more knowledgeable about Germany and the German way of life.

Cycle Against Suicide

The CAS bandwagon rolled into Wexford on Friday last, This awareness campaign has had a huge impact across the counrty. Our school has been an Ambassador School for the last two tears, with great work put in by Ms. Ivers and her committee of workers.

It's OK not to feel OK and it's absolutely OK to ask for help

Wexford was bedecked in Orange for the day as hundreds of cyclists arrived from Waterford and headed ofr Arklow the following day. 18 of our students did the 68k cycle along with 4 of our teachers, while the whole school lined the route to lend support to all those who cycled.

San Gaeltacht - Achill Island

68 second year pupils headed to Achill Island last week to combine their Irish Studies and P.E. as they enjoyed a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities through Irish. They stayed in the community with local homeowners and had a wonderful time in the glorious weather. Canoeing, surfing, bodyboarding, hill walking, climbing, team challenges, bog surfing, cliff jumping, ceili dancing were some of the activities they enjoyed.
