U.16 Football

South Leinster Junior football ‘C’ championship

Quarter-final
At Pairc Charman
Tuesday January 10, 2012

Wexford CBS....................................2-9
Colaiste Chill Mhaintain...................1-7
The under-16 footballers from Wexford CBS qualified for the semi-final of the South Leinster ‘C’ championship following this recent hard earned victory over Colaiste Chill Mhaintain in Pairc Charman.
This was a tough battle from the throw-in and with both sets of backs proving to be quite solid it wasn’t surprising that the first score didn’t come until the twentieth minute as the visitors took the lead with a point.
Defences stayed on top for the remainder of the first half and Colaiste Chill Mhaintain led by 0-4 to 0-3 at half time in quite a low scoring 30 minutes of football. Eoin Roche (two) and Sean Stafford registered the points for CBS.
However the Bokerboys were somewhat wasteful in the last ten minutes of the first half and missed two clear-cut goal chances.
Stafford levelled matters early in the second half as CBS were determined to get back into the match. Their opponents were equally as eager for that last four berth and during the third quarter points were exchanged to leave the score at 0-6 each. Dale Scallan and Nicky Lawlor were responsible for the CBS points.
CBS received a lucky break in the 48th minute when Eoin Roche’s high ball into the square was fumbled by the Wicklow town school’s keeper and ended up in the net.
Having just snatched the lead for the first time in the game, CBS were rocked when they conceded a penalty which was converted to put Colaiste Cill Mhaintain back into the driving seat entering the final ten minutes.
In spite of this considerable setback CBS started to dictate play and two points from Eoin Roche and a cracking goal from Sean Stafford secured a hard earned victory.
Best for CBS were Eoin Roche, Jamie McDonnell, Sean Stafford, Dale Scallan, CIaran Kirwan, Evan Dunbar and Nicky Lawlor. They face Ardscoil Rath Iomghain (Rathangan, Co. Kildare) in the semi-final.
