Leading Actress Visits The Boker

Third year students of Wexford CBS were recently privileged to a visit from UK Actress and teacher/director at RADA Alison Skilbeck (Sherlock Holmes, Midsomer Murders, Dr. Who and Polly from The Archers). She teaches in the most famous acting school in the world RADA where Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman, Anthony Hopkins,  and Brendan Gleeson are amongst the alumni - she is also on the admissions panel for only 28 places where over 4000 apply- so a good woman to know for any students who wish to pursue acting careers. Miss Skilbeck specialises in Shakespeare and she gave the students some insight into the characters and language of Shakespeare as well as going through some of the key scenes in ‘The Merchant of Venice’. A number of the boys came up to give some stirring performances whilst being directed by Miss Skilbeck, and certainly gained some invaluable information and insight to help them prepare for their upcoming Junior Cert exam this June. Overall it was a great honour to have an actress like Alison come to our school, and work with the lads.

7 Gold and 1 Silver - South Leinster Track and Field Championships

We had a very rewarding day out in Kilkenny today as some of our First Years enjoyed their first taste of schools athletics. First up on the podium with gold medals were the Minor 4x100m relay team of Luke and Sam O'Neill, Aaron Smith and Leon Nolan, winning with a time of 51.8sec, just outside the championship record. David McDonald competing at Junior level jumped 6m to take gold in the long jump which he followed shortly afterwards with gold in the 200m. David broke the championship record which was remarkable considering he will compete in the same age band next year. Next up was Leon Nolan in the Minor 500m, he blew the field away and cantered home for his second gold of the day. Sam won his second gold of the day, winning the Minor 75m Hurdles, while twin brother Luke got silver in the Minor 80m sprint.
All now go on to the Leinster Finals in Santry on May 15th.
