Three Wexford boxers took to the ring in an international round robin multi-nations youth competition in the National Stadium in Dublin at the weekend.
Fighters from Ireland, Scotland, England and Italy took part in the tournament and the Model county representatives were Dean Walsh (St. Ibar's/St. Joseph's), Eddie Byrne (CBS) and Jack Morrissey (Sacre Coeur).
Walsh, boxing in the 52 kg. division, was the only one of the trio to record a victory, recovering from a fivepoint deficit to overcome English ABA champion Samson Syke 17-15.
The English fighter led 4-1 after the first round and stretched his advantage to five midway through the second, before Walsh reduced the arrears to just one point, 10-9, by the end of the round.
The Wexford boxer took control in the final round and ran out a 17-15 winner.
