Senior Rugby - Vinny Murray Cup

Wexford C.B.S. ...21   Skerries Community School . ...25
Wexford put up a brave fight in this third tier competition in poor conditions at Greystones last Thursday. Wexford got off to a great start when Collie Joyce-Ahearne scored close to the post, Sean Stafford converted to give a 7-0 lead. Skerries responded with an unconverted try before Eoin Roche stretched the Wexford lead with an try. Again Sean Stafford added the extra points. 14-5 and looking good, but then a lapse of concentration cost a further try  and the concession of a needless penalty  narrowed the gap to just one point before half time. 14-13 Wexford.
Again Wexford were fastest out of the blocks and Eoin Roche scored following a kick ahead winning the race for the touchdown, Stafford duly converted, 21-13. At this stage Wexford seemed in control, but another disastrous decision cost us dearly and reduced the lead to 21-20. Struggling now to get decent territorial position Wexford were dealt a another blow when our line was breached for the fourth time. This was the straw that broke the camels back and we just couldn't claw it back before time ran out on us.
All is not lost however, as we have the Development Cup Final in Donnybrook on Tuesday 15th. Hopefully we can lift our first ever Provincial Cup. Best wishes to all our players in the final. Kick off is at 2.00pm.
