South Leinster Athletics

Well done to all the athletes who competed in the South Leinster track and field championships.   In the minor boys category Rian Sammon finished in second place in the 1100m to ensure he qualified for the Leinster final. 
In the intermediate boys category the school won the shield for accumulating the most medals in the under 17 age group.   Gergely Pap won both the Shot Putt and the Discus while Jack Forde picked up a gold medal in the Triple Jump and a silver medal in the High Jump.   Jack added to his medal tally in the final race of the day when he raced home in the 4×100m relay.   Kyle Clancy, Conor Brennan and Shane O’Neill were the other members of the relay team.   Shane O’Neill also picked up a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles race.   Another member of the Menapians, Nathan Murphy won a bronze medal in the Shot Putt and a silver in the mile race. 
Finally, the school picked up 3 further medals in the senior boys races.   David McDonald raced away from the field in the 100m and 200m finals securing two more gold medals for the school.   Aaron Tierney-Smith also showed some good form winning a gold medal in the 110m hurdles. 
Well done to all the athletes who competed for the school in the track and field championships and the cross country throughout the year and best of luck to all the athletes who are competed in the Leinster track and field finals this Wednesday and Saturday.
