Senior Rugby - McMullen Cup Q-Final

Wexford C.B.S. ...25   East Glendalough....7

Another very fine performance by The Bokerboys, this time the execution was much improved. Early dominance led to a penalty by Eoin Roche after 3 mins. Roche kicked superbly from hand and pinned EGL into their own 22 for long periods.Following a few phases of pick and go, the ball finally was moved wide and winger J.J.Browne was on hand to score in the corner. Shortly after on 25 mins, Collie Joyce-Ahearne drove low and hard and crossed for another try, which Roche converted. On 32 mins. again following tremendous forwards pressure, Conor Fenlon blocked down a clearing kick, and won the race for the touchdown. Roche converted this try and added another penalty before the break. 25-0
In the second half Wexford failed to get momentum going and conceded a large amount of penalties at the breakdown area. However as usual the defence was rock solid, with The Bash Brothers in the centre, causing serious damage to each attack. EGL finally broke through on 24 mins, but that was as good as it got for them. Wexford moved up field and shut out the game.
Lots of good aspects to this performance, but still work to be done. Naas or Maynooth in the Semi-Final next week.

Senior Rugby - McMullen Cup

Wexford C.B.S....7 Wilson's Hospital....0
''Cheers guys, that was the toughest game we played all season, you know we have four Leinster players and an International'' Yes indeed you may well have Mr.Captain but Wexford won the game, and in doing so knocked out one of the pre competition favourites.
C.BS. got in some early hits and put down a marker, we would not roll over, even after a three hour trip to Mullingar. Wexford dominated the early exchanges and played deep in the opposing half for most of the first half. Having crossed the line on three occasions, Wexford could have been forgiven for believing that it was not going to be their day. However on 30 mins finally a score that could not be disallowed. Gavin Byrne was on hand to finish of some relentless bombardment of the try line. Eoin Roche kicked the conversion. 7-0.
Playing into the strong wind in the second half was going to be tough, but that's how the Bokerboys like it, tough. Our steely defence was not to be penetrated and it's rating has now gone up to Triple A status. ''Thou shalt not pass''.It was that simple. Our tackling was hard, solid and at times frightening in its ferocity.
This was a thrilling cup game and one the squad will remember for a long time.
Next week it is East Glendalough in the Q-Final of this competition. We also have Ratoath CS in the Final of the Development Cup to come also.

Senior Soccer

Wexford C.B.S. ...3   Bridgetown V.S. ...2
On Thursday 8th of November the senior soccer team managed to hold off a strong Bridgetown challenge in Wexford Celtics grounds. Wexford CBS began the game brightly and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but were finding it difficult to create an opening against a well organised Bridgetown defence. Conor Clancy, Danny Fitz and Mark Doyle all came close to opening the scoring in the opening twenty minutes but none managed to hit the target when presented with an opportunity. Bridgetown began to find their way into the game and almost took the lead, CBS didn’t deal with a free kick crossed into the box and the ball found its way to a Bridgetown player at the edge of the box who struck the cross bar from the edge of the box. Bridgetown were now enjoying the better of the game and soon took the lead after a corner was not completely cleared by the Bokerboys and the ball landed at the edge of the box and Bridgetown’s no.10 struck a well-placed volley which found the net. This goal seemed to galvanise the home side however as the CBS came back strong and put Bridgetown under severe pressure. Danny Fitz was played in but was taken down by the keeper outside the box as he was in one on one, the keeper received a yellow and Dale Scallan came close with the resulting free kick.
The Bokerboys upped the pressure in search of an equaliser and Richie Kearney, Dale Scallan, Jessie Farrell and Danny Fitz all came close to equalising before John Bridges managed to finally to force one over the line directly from a corner kick. The second half began as the first ended with the CBS on top and looking to get the lead, Danny Fitz waltzed through the Bridgetown defence before mixing up his angles and hitting narrowly wide inside the penalty spot. Jessie Farrell and Mark Doyle were also played into good positions but were unable to hit the net. CBS soon took the lead however as Danny Fitz again ran at the Bridgetown defence before playing in John Bridges who finished neatly to give Wexford a 2-1 lead. Wexford were dominating the game at this point with Dylan Walsh running the show but may regret the fact that they were unable to double their advantage as they were wasteful with the chances they created. Dale Scallan came forward from centre back and came close again with a shot from distance. Bridgetown played a long ball forward from defence and Evan Dunbar seemed to have coped well as he cleared the ball against a Bridgetown player and over the side-line but somehow the referee decided to award the throw to the away side. From the resulting throw in Bridgetown managed to attack down the wing and square a good cross from which they found an equaliser from no. 10 again, 2-2. The goal gave the away side renewed hope and they really came back into the game, the match now was end to end as both sides went all out attack in search of a winner. Substitute Cian Doyle made a great run and was taken down by the Bridgetown keeper inside the area with less than ten to go, up stepped captain Dale Scallan who netted to put the Bokerboys 3-2 ahead. Bridgetown rallied and came back at them and struck the bar with minutes remaining. The referee blew the whistle with Dylan Walsh on the counter attack close to the away sides goal. In a three team group it is now a nervous wait for the CBS as they await the result between Enniscorthy and Bridgetown to confirm who will progress from the group.  A good victory for the CBS, as they were pushed all the way in a tight contest by a resolute Bridgetown side. Best on the day for the Bokerboys were Danny Fitzpatrick, John Bridges, Dale Scallan and Dylan Walsh.
Wexford CBS: Shane McGrath (Wexford Albion), Jason Kearns (North End), Dale Scallan (Wexford Youths), Evan Dunbar (North End), Richie Kearney (North End), Dylan Walsh (North End), Conor Clancy (Rosslare Strand), John Bridges (Wexford Celtic), Mark Doyle (Wexford Celtic), Jessie Farrell (North End), Danny Fitzpatrick (Wexford Youths),
Subs; John Hamilton (Forth Celtic) for Kearns, Cian Doyle (Wexford Celtic) for Bridges, John Forde (Curracloe Utd.) for Farrell, also Eoghan Whitty (Forth Celtic), Darragh Rossiter (Forth Celtic), Jamie MacDonnell (Wexford Celtic)

South Leinster Senior Hurling ‘C’ semi-final

Ballyhale VC..............5-8
Wexford CBS.............0-1

THE SENIOR hurlers of Wexford CBS suffered humiliation at the hands of a far superior Ballyhale VC in the South Leinster ‘C’ semi-final recently in a very disappointing performance. The game was well and truly over at half-time when, having played with the strong wind, CBS trailed by a massive 4-3 to 0-1.
The Wexford school’s attack squandered numerous scoring chances during that first half while their Kilkenny opponents were ruthless with their chances at the other end. CBS’s sole point arrived in the 20th minute when Ciaran Kirwan gave John Bridges a pass and the later put the ball between the posts.
However, CBS were naive in defence and their attitude all the field was very poor as their Ballyhale opponents totally outhurled and outworked them.
Best on a day to forget for the Boker boys were Rob Donnelly, Ciaran Kirwan, Jamie McDonnell and John Bridges.
Wexford CBS: Rob Donnelly (Buffers Alley); Liam Barry (Faythe Harriers), James Somers (St. Martin’s), John Hamilton (St. Martin’s); Jason Kearns (Volunteers), Ciaran Kirwan (Faythe Harriers), Nicky Lawlor (Faythe Harriers); Jamie McDonnell (Faythe Harriers, Capt.) Joe Redmond (Shelmaliers); John Bridges (Faythe Harriers, 0-1), Evan Dunbar (St. Martin’s), Stephen Kearney (Faythe Harriers); Sean Stafford (St. Martin’s), Eoin Roche (Faythe Harriers), Joe McBride (Volunteers).
Subs: Darragh Rossiter (St. Martin’s) for Roche, Richie Cleary (Clonard) for McBride, Mark Hayes (St. Martin’s) for Redmond, John Forde (Shelmaliers) for Stafford.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Ever tried living on less than €1 a day ?
Many of the families who get your shoeboxes have no choice
RomaniaThey are forgotten children – victims of war, disease or poverty.  Children living on the edge, in some of the poorest countries in the world.
Life is bleak, with little to look forward to – just hoping to have some food on the table today.  Hoping they’ll be safe tonight, and alive tomorrow. And Christmas is just another ordinary day - nothing special, no Christmas tree, no presents.  But your shoebox will bring a little hope, a lot of laughter and smiles and a practical expression of God’s love at Christmas time, for children who have very little.
No, a shoebox won’t change everything, but it will do far more than we could ever imagine, by bringing Christmas to children who have never experienced anything like it before !  And if a local leader requests it, as an optional extra, we also give a Christmas card – explaining where their box came from, about Ireland and the significance of the Christmas message.
CroatiaOver the last thirteen years, we have sent an Irish Christmas shoebox gift to more than 2,600,000 children in twenty one countries.  Now, more than ever, we are receiving requests from new communities and countries – will you help us give a child their Christmas of a lifetime, this year ?

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

We ask you to fill a shoebox with a range of simple Christmas gifts, and drop it off at your local drop off point before November 12th, and we will do the rest !
P1010101We check that it meets all the customs and safety requirements, seal it and send it on its way by truck or container.  In the receiving country our network of partners will deliver it right into a child’s hands – in hospitals, schools, shelters, churches, orphanages, community centres or family homes.  When the local leader requests it, as an optional extra, we will also give a Christmas card - explaining where their box came from, a little about Ireland and the significance of the Christmas story.
YOUR SHOEBOX CAN TURN JUST ANOTHER DAY IN A CHILD’S LIFE INTO SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL, A DAY THAT THEY WILL REMEMBER FOR YEARS TO COME
Please  drop your filled boxes to Mrs. Barry or Ms. Connell before Nov.21st.

Under 17 Soccer

Wexford C.B.S. ...5 Enniscorthy V.C. ...0

Wexford CBS Under 17 side began their Wicklow-Wexford league campaign with an impressive victory away to a well drilled Enniscorthy side. In recent years Enniscorthy have proved a difficult stumbling block for the Boker boys but on this occasion the lads produced a dominant performance to take all 3 points.
The first half proved a frustrating affair for the CBS as Enniscorthy defended deep and looked to frustrate their opponents. CBS began well and controlled possession from the off, Emmet Sinnot and Mark Doyle were combining well down the left flank and creating numerous chances for the away side as Jessie Farrell, Cian Doyle and John Hamilton all went close to scoring. Both Doyle and Sinnott were firing in a number of dangerous crosses which the Enniscorthy side were struggling to deal with and Emmer went close with a good strike from range only to force a good stop from the keeper. Half way through the first half the CBS thought they had broken the deadlock only for Jessie Farrell to be marginally ruled offside as he neatly finished a Darragh Rossiter through ball. The Wexford town side continued to impress and create chances but were unable to find a first-half goal against a resolute Enniscorthy side as Richie Kearney narrowly headed over from a corner and right on the stroke of half time Jessie Farrell chipped the keeper but also saw his effort narrowly float over the bar. This left the sides level at the break 0-0.
The second half began with a renewed vigour in the CBS side as they upped the tempo in a search of that elusive goal. It did not take long to come as the boys moved the ball around nicely up front before setting up John Hamilton who took a touch before unleashing a ferocious strike from outside the box which hit the top corner to leave the Enniscorthy keeper with no chance to put the bokerboys one up. The Wexford lads now smelt blood and another goal soon followed as impressive half time sub Dylan Dixon took a nice touch before firing home from a narrow angle after good build up play from Rossiter, Hamilton and Cian Doyle to make it 2-0. A third soon followed as CBS pressure forced a corner and captain Richie Kearney rose well at the far post to nod home a Mark Doyle corner. The CBS were forced into changing centre half Lar Stoutt after he took a blow to the ribs from a tough challenge.
A 4th goal immediately followed as the Enniscorthy side lost their composure, the referee bizarrely waved play on as the Enniscorthy keeper tried to tear Jessie Farrell’s shirt off after he had side-stepped him but Jessie managed to stay on his feet and lay the ball out to onrushing winger Dixon who netted his second goal with a lovely curling effort with the outside of the right foot. The bokerboys continued to dominate the game through the middle of the field as John Hamilton and Darragh Rossiter dominated the centre and found a fifth goal when substitute Sam Okegbile finished from close range after some good play from the left wing from the CBS. Enniscorthy almost got themselves a consolation goal only for an acrobatic save from Shane McGrath who was in no mood to relinquish his clean sheet.
A very good start to the season for the under 17 side who are of course looking to retain their under 16 Wicklow-Wexford title from last year. Up next are Bridgetown at home. Best on the day for the CBS from an exceptional team performance were Kearney, Sinnot, Hamilton, Mark Doyle and super-sub Dixon.
Wexford CBS: Shane McGrath (Wexford Albion), Eoghan Whitty (Forth Celtic), Richie Kearney (cpt) (North End), Lar Stoutt (North End), Emmet Sinnot (North End), Tadhg Dunleavy (North End), John Hamilton (Forth Celtic), Darragh Rossiter (Forth Celtic), Mark Doyle (Wexford Celtic), Jessie Farrell (North End), Cian Doyle (Wexford Celtic) Subs: Dylan Dixon (Curracloe Utd.), Emmet O’Connor (Corach Ramblers), Sam Okegbile (Wexford Celtic), George Cullen (North End), Emmet Ryan (Wexford Celtic) Matthew Devereaux (Wexford Celtic)
