Colaiste Éamonn Rís Takes a Bite Out the Big Apple

Our fifth New York exchange took place this past April with Iona Prep High School in New Rochelle, New York.  David Kavanagh, Angelo Miculescu, Leon Nolan Cullen, Jack Pierce, Ultan Warren, Patsy Whelan, Mr. Hegarty and Mrs. Hayes saw the sights and sounds of the city that never sleeps.  Their first visit was to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.  It was a very moving remembrance of the event that affected so many people across the world.  Over the next few days they visited The Intrepid- Sea, Air and Space Museum, sailed around Manhattan on a Circle Line cruise and explored the Museum of Natural History.  They took in a Broadway show - The School of Rock, had a bird’s eye view of NYC from the top of the Empire State Building and shopped  ‘til they dropped in Century 21, Times Square and 5th Ave.  They headed up to their hosts at Iona Prep and went home to become part of their American families.  They enjoyed four days in school attending classes and then everyone, students and teachers, revelled in a glorious sunny day at a Mets game at Citifield in Queens. The week ended with a lovely service in the school chapel celebrating the two Edmund Rice schools.
