T.Y. Christmas Trip

Transition years went to Kilternan Ski Slope for a lesson on how to tackle the art of downhill sking. Following that they went over to Dundrum to participate in the fine art of shopping. A great day was had by all.

Hurling - First Year Final

Kilkenny 4-4 Galway 4-1

Kilkenny withstood a ferocious comeback to win the First Year Hurling League by a three point margin. It looked like they had wrapped up the victory when they were six points clear in the dying minutes but a goal by Darragh Whelan gave Galway hope and they had two late chances for more goals pulled back by the referee due to fouls.
This spirited game of hurling was entertaining from the first minute to the last. Jack O’Leary had a big say in the destination of the title with a fine total of 2-2 and he also put in some serious defending.
The game was all square at half-time (2-1 each) as Kilkenny reeled in Galway who had gone in front with goals from Cathal Kirwan and Jordan Hayes.
However the third quarter belonged to Kilkenny as Philip Rawson, Aaron Walsh and Jack O’Leary dominated. Jack O’Leary scored 1-2 and Philip Rawson’s goal looked to have sealed victory for Ben McMahon’s team.
However Galway came back into the game as Cathal Kirwan and Jordan Hayes began to exert their influence. They set up Darragh Whelan and his powerful ground stroke went to the net but those late controversial refereeing decisions meant that Kilkenny ended up as winners by 4-4 to 4-1.

Christmas Fair

A very successful Christmas Fair was held in the school gym on Friday last. It gave the pupils a chance to display and sell their crafts. Organised by Business teachers Mrs. Barry and Mr. Smith, it once again proved a very popular venue to be in on Friday last. Many parents and local primary schools visited and enjoyed the food stuffs and crafts on offer. The arrival of Santa was also a huge attraction and many took the opportunity to place their Christmas lists with him.

A cold morning in Bridgetown greeted both teams. Bridgetown started the brighter of the two teams. Wexford’s back-line of Dylan O’Regan, Kevin Harte, Ryan Byrne and Lee Busher withstood the early pressure. Eventually the CBS began to gain the upper hand, their midfield of Cormac Byrne, Dylan Ennis, Matthew Creane and Mark Doyle produced numerous neat moves. Micheal Lalor had two good chances but found the side netting with both efforts. Good work from Dylan Ennis and Liam Rockett had Wexford on the attack. Wexford started the second half strong, some positional switches helped Wexford gain more of a foothold in the game, their dominance continued. However a break away from Bridgetown after a dubious offside wasn’t called led to the game leveller, Conor Coleman had no chance in the CBS goal.

CBS 1-1 Bridgetown, this only made Wexford more determined. Dominating the game now, Lee Busher produced an excellent finish to give Wexford the lead, 2-1.

Further goals from Matthew Creane, Cormac Byrne, Matthew again, Liam Rockett and Michael Kaluzny made the score an impressive, Wexford CBS 7-1 Bridgetown VC.

Senior Rugby - McMullen Cup Semi-Final

Wexford C.B.S. ...5  Naas C.B.S. ...27
Carlow was the venue for this Semi-Final and while Wexford 'were up for it', it never happened. A combination of a few things led to our downfall, but we haven't become a bad team after one performance.This was our first loss of the season and we will learn from it. Ball possession was crucial and retention of the ball when he had it was just not good enough. T CUP, was the buzz phrase of Clive Woodward, Think Clearly Under Pressure. We didn't and therefore made Naas look good, they capitalised on our mistakes amd it cost us dearly. Best on the day for us were Collie Joyce-Ahearne , who scored our try, David Kavanagh, who is having a fine season at No.7, Gavin Byrne at No.6, Conor Fenlon at No.9 and Liam Barry at No.15.
However, we do have the Development Final to come in the new year against Ratoath C.C. and also we have qualified for the Vinnie Murray Cup. So we will have competed at three different levels this season, a remarkable achievement indeed. Our name will be called out of the pot when the draw is made in the Aviva Stadium on Monday evening. In reality we are only four games away from the Top Table of schools rugby in Leinster.

Juvenile Football

Páirc Charman was the venue for Wexford CBS’s hard fought win over Scoil Chlonglais Baltinglass in the South Leinster juvenile C championship recently. 

The Boker Boys started the strongest with two points from Leon Nolan-Cullen and Nicky Kelly in the opening ten minutes. After fifteen minutes wing forward Nathan Furlong drove a high ball into the Baltinglass net.
Further points followed for CBS from Leon Nolan-Cullen and Jordan Hayes. Baltinglass had still not registered a score when Lee Busher added a second goal with a great soccer style finish on the twenty-first minute. 
Corner forward Jordan Hayes continued the Wexford CBS dominance with two more points before Baltinglass  responded with a well taken goal and point to leave the score at the interval at 2-6 to 1-1.
Baltinglass continued where they left off in the first half with the opening two points of the second half. Leon Nolan-Cullen and Nicky Kelly added to their first half scores with a point each to increase the CBS lead.
However despite these two points the Wicklow men were looking the more threatening team in the second half they and they added three more points. The Boker Boys weathered the Baltinglass storm before substitute Shane Hall found the net to give the Wexford men a nine point cushion with five minutes remaining.
In the dying minutes Baltinglass scored two goals. However this was not enough as the Wexford town men held out to record a three point win. Best for Wexford CBS were defenders Kevin Corrigan, David McDonald and Cody Murphy who defended resolutely against any Baltinglass attack. Midfielders Mark Doyle and Jack O’Leary worked tirelessly in both defence and attack while forwards Jordan Hayes, Leon Nolan-Cullen and Nicky Kelly were always a threat in attack.

TY GAA Reach Programme

The Transition Years spent a very worthwhile day in Bellefield GAA Complex recently as they completed their TY GAA Reach Programme. All the boys thoroughly enjoyed their time interacting and listening to the various specialists in the workshops - Alcohol Awareness, Meditation, Mental Health, Caman Abu and Peil Abu.
However, first up for the boys who were joined by students from Enniscorthy and Gorey was an introductory talk by Paudie Butler who was aided by a powerpoint presentation with images to back up his thoughts.
He started with a picture of a huge heard of wildebeest crossing the Mara river in Africa. One million of these animals have to cross this river each year in order to survive. 99% make it. The others get caught by the hungry crocodiles that are at the river waiting for them. Mr. Butler told the gathering that their crocodiles are alcohol and drugs.
He spoke about the infinite capacity of the mind. “You have great ability; believe in it and in yourselves. Your biggest challenge is to be yourself every day. The whole world is trying to turn you into a copy of someone.
“Me, your family and your teachers are stepping stones to help you cross the river and avoid the crocodiles. This is our job as adults and it’ll be your job as adults in thirty year’s time.”
He continued: “The quality of life we have emerges from our understanding and practise of self-esteem. The way we see ourselves is the way we will be.”
Mr. Butler finished to a rousing applause from the large attendance and then the boys were split up into groups of five and went to the various workshops which lasted thirty minutes each.
Clodagh Comiskey spoke to the boys about the benefits of proper exercise, proper diet, relaxation, sleep and rest and cautioned about the “weapons of mass distraction”. “Real relaxation is relaxing the mind and the body,” said Ms Comiskey.
The boys also learning about the important of proper breathing and the many benefits of positive thinking. “Toxic chemicals are released when the body is stressed. When you think positively higher emotions are experienced.”
Denis O’Connor informed the boys that students “who are physically active for more than two hours per week show improved attention and behaviour in school.” He spoke of the importance of building confidence which in turn leads to a reduction in self-destructive behaviour.
Sport was identified as something which “often produces leaders in communities. Picture of local sports stars such as Matty Forde, Gordon Darcy and Kevin Doyle were shown on the screen and the boys asked would they know them if they weren’t involved in sport.
Kevin Waters ran the Alcohol Awareness workshop and presented the boys with information about the dangers of alcohol and cautioned them about the ill effects alcohol can have on themselves and their loved ones.
The boys also spent time out on the back pitch in Bellefield under the supervision of the Full-Time Wexford Coaches playing and enjoying Peil Abu and Caman Abu.

Mo Day

Friday last was Mo Day in school, when pupils and staff displayed their Mo's as a fund raising event for Mens Health Related Issues in conjunction with Movember. Well done to all who participated and contributed.

Senior Rugby - McMullen Cup Q-Final

Wexford C.B.S. ...25   East Glendalough....7

Another very fine performance by The Bokerboys, this time the execution was much improved. Early dominance led to a penalty by Eoin Roche after 3 mins. Roche kicked superbly from hand and pinned EGL into their own 22 for long periods.Following a few phases of pick and go, the ball finally was moved wide and winger J.J.Browne was on hand to score in the corner. Shortly after on 25 mins, Collie Joyce-Ahearne drove low and hard and crossed for another try, which Roche converted. On 32 mins. again following tremendous forwards pressure, Conor Fenlon blocked down a clearing kick, and won the race for the touchdown. Roche converted this try and added another penalty before the break. 25-0
In the second half Wexford failed to get momentum going and conceded a large amount of penalties at the breakdown area. However as usual the defence was rock solid, with The Bash Brothers in the centre, causing serious damage to each attack. EGL finally broke through on 24 mins, but that was as good as it got for them. Wexford moved up field and shut out the game.
Lots of good aspects to this performance, but still work to be done. Naas or Maynooth in the Semi-Final next week.

All Ireland School's Talent Search

Well done to Nathan Donovan and Emmett O'Connor who successfully progress to the next round of the All Ireland School's Talent Search after ranking in the top six of thirty two acts in the Wexford Final, held in Whites hotel last Friday night. Emmet (5th year) and Nathan (6th year) will compete next in the South Leinster Heats round.
Also, congratulations to LMJ (Luke Jackson, Marty Mullally and Jack Robinson - 5th year), The Krew (Danny Fitzpatrick, Chris Murphy-Kehoe and Nathan Donovan - 6th year) and Marty Mullally (solo) whom each ranked in the top three on the same night. These acts will fast track straight to the South Leinster Final!
Super achievements for all involved.

Senior Rugby - McMullen Cup

''Cheers guys, that was the toughest game we played all season, you know we have four Leinster players and an International'' Yes indeed you may well have Mr.Captain but Wexford won the game, and in doing so knocked out one of the pre competition favourites.
C.BS. got in some early hits and put down a marker, we would not roll over, even after a three hour trip to Mullingar. Wexford dominated the early exchanges and played deep in the opposing half for most of the first half. Having crossed the line on three occasions, Wexford could have been forgiven for believing that it was not going to be their day. However on 30 mins finally a score that could not be disallowed. Gavin Byrne was on hand to finish of some relentless bombardment of the try line. Eoin Roche kicked the conversion. 7-0.
Playing into the strong wind in the second half was going to be tough, but that's how the Bokerboys like it, tough.Our steely defence was not to be penetrated and it's rating has now gone up to Triple A status. ''Thou shalt not pass''.It was that simple. Our tackling was hard, solid and at times frightening in its ferocity.
This was a thrilling cup game and one the squad will remember for a long time.
Next week it is East Glendalough in the Q-Final of this competition. We also have Ratoath CS in the Final of the Development Cup to come also.

Christmas Fair

C.B.S.Christmas Fair will be held in the school gym on Friday 7th Dec. from 1.00 - 4.00pm
Santa will attend and have a stash of presents in his grotto. The school choir will entertain with carols. Our young entrepreneurs will  be selling their Christmas wares.

Senior Soccer

On Thursday 8^th of November the senior soccer team managed to hold off a strong Bridgetown challenge in Wexford Celtics grounds. Wexford CBS began the game brightly and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but were finding it difficult to create an opening against a well organised Bridgetown defence. Conor Clancy, Danny Fitz and Mark Doyle all came close to opening the scoring in the opening twenty minutes but none managed to hit the target when presented with an opportunity. Bridgetown began to find their way into the game and almost took the lead, CBS didn’t deal with a free kick crossed into the box and the ball found its way to a Bridgetown player at the edge of the box who struck the cross bar from the edge of the box. Bridgetown were now enjoying the better of the game and soon took the lead after a corner was not completely cleared by the Bokerboys and the ball landed at the edge of the box and Bridgetown’s no.10 struck a well-placed volley which found the net. This goal seemed to galvanise the home side however as the CBS came back strong and put Bridgetown under severe pressure. Danny Fitz was played in but was taken down by the keeper outside the box as he was in one on one, the keeper received a yellow and Dale Scallan came close with the resulting free kick.

The Bokerboys upped the pressure in search of an equaliser and Richie Kearney, Dale Scallan, Jessie Farrell and Danny Fitz all came close to equalising before John Bridges managed to finally to force one over the line directly from a corner kick. The second half began as the first ended with the CBS on top and looking to get the lead, Danny Fitz waltzed through the Bridgetown defence before mixing up his angles and hitting narrowly wide inside the penalty spot. Jessie Farrell and Mark Doyle were also played into good positions but were unable to hit the net. CBS soon took the lead however as Danny Fitz again ran at the Bridgetown defence before playing in John Bridges who finished neatly to give Wexford a 2-1 lead. Wexford were dominating the game at this point with Dylan Walsh running the show but may regret the fact that they were unable to double their advantage as they were wasteful with the chances they created. Dale Scallan came forward from centre back and came close again with a shot from distance. Bridgetown played a long ball forward from defence and Evan Dunbar seemed to have coped well as he cleared the ball against a Bridgetown player and over the side-line but somehow the referee decided to award the throw to the away side. From the resulting throw in Bridgetown managed to attack down the wing and square a good cross from which they found an equaliser from no. 10 again, 2-2. The goal gave the away side renewed hope and they really came back into the game, the match now was end to end as both sides went all out attack in search of a winner. Substitute Cian Doyle made a great run and was taken down by the Bridgetown keeper inside the area with less than ten to go, up stepped captain Dale Scallan who netted to put the Bokerboys 3-2 ahead. Bridgetown rallied and came back at them and struck the bar with minutes remaining. The referee blew the whistle with Dylan Walsh on the counter attack close to the away sides goal. In a three team group it is now a nervous wait for the CBS as they await the result between Enniscorthy and Bridgetown to confirm who will progress from the group.  A good victory for the CBS, as they were pushed all the way in a tight contest by a resolute Bridgetown side. Best on the day for the Bokerboys were Danny Fitzpatrick, John Bridges, Dale Scallan and Dylan Walsh.
