U.17 Soccer

Wexford CBS......2  Gorey CS........0
CBS started the brighter of the two sides putting some early pressure on to Gorey, and it only took 3 minutes for them to break the deadlock. A corner swung in from the left by Cirean Carthy was met by Kallum Broaders who headed the ball low beyond the keeper to give CBS the perfect start. Gorey came close on the 13th minute when a through ball put them in one on one with CBS goalkeeper James Crean who made a fine save to deny Gorey the equalizer. Gorey had a good chance as the half hour approached, a corner delivered in from the right was met with a free header, but it was straight at James Crean who comfortably gathered the ball. CBS showed their danger on the attack when a quickly taken free kick released Todd Hynes down the right but his cross was cut out just before it could reach Kallum Broaders, and just minutes later they doubled their lead. Cirean Carthy delivered a free kick into the box which was met by Leon Nolan before eventually crossing the line off a Gorey defender for an own goal.

Half-Time: CBS 2-0 Gorey Community School

Gorey came out strong at the start of the second half putting some pressure on the CBS defence. They came close when once again a through ball put a Gorey player in one on one who saw his shot bouncing back off the near post and James Crean made a magnificent save from the rebound to keep their clean sheet intact. Gorey found it difficult to break down the solid CBS defence, their only real chance for the remainder of the match was dragged wide of the far post. CBS dominated the remainder of the game coming close on a few occasions. Leon Nolan drilled a shot in from just outside the box which the keeper could only parrie back to him but he put the follow up just wide of the post. CBS continued to show their threat from set pieces as they came close when a free kick was delivered in towards the back post with the shot just inches over the bar. It was a solid performance from the team with Gorey rarely threatening the CBS goal.
