Christmas Fair

Well done to all Ty, 1st and 2nd year students involved in the Christmas fair. It was a great success again this year with huge numbers attending. The children were delighted to meet Santa Claus, have their faces painted and listen to seasonal Christmas carols sung excellently by the CBS Choir under the guidance of Ms. Kavanagh. There were some wonderful products on sale and were quickly snapped up by students and parents alike. Many thanks to all who supported. €319.44 was raised for the Philippines tornado disaster on the day. Well done to all.

Collie To Represent Leinster Schools

Congratulations to our SCT captain, Collie Joyce-Ahearne who has been selected to the Leinster Schools squad to play Australia in Donnybrook tomorrow night. This is a remarkable achievement for a player from a Section A school. Collie has already played for Leinster U.18's, Leinster U.19's and Ireland U.18's.

Rugby - SCT Advance To Semi-Final

Today was very important, not only was it a ticket to the McMullen Cup semi-final, but also a place in the Vinny Murray Cup draw on Monday night. This gives us a crack at the ' big boys'.
We were simply excellent in the opening exchanges of this game, we played with power and intensity, but above all our execution in the scoring zone was immense.Joe Coleman scored twice in 15 mins. This was followed by tries from Eoin Roche and Conor Fenlon before half time.Sean Stafford added one conversion. 22-3 at the break was convincing. DLS responded early in the second half with some possession, but never really threatened the line. Ian Moran then finished off two slick back line moves and Collie Joyce-Ahearne added another to wrap up our scoring. Sean Stafford added a further two points by converting one of them.
DLS did manage to score late on, but the result was well beyond their reach.
Bokerboys now meet Naas, a repeat of last years semi-final.
The draw for the Vinny Murray Cup takes place on Monday night. Let's see who we get in that.
Well done lads,you were all exceptional today, our goals are still firmly intact. Believe it.

The Bokerboys were firmly in control of this tie and when Ruairi Devereux scored in the corner after five minutes, the signs looked good. Eoin Roche was in fine form and kicked the conversion from the touchline. 7-0. Eoin was involved again on fifteen minutes and finished off a fine move, again he added the extra points. 14-0. Steve Roche crossed the line but was judged to have been held up. Wexford again attacked out wide and a flowing move was finished by Ruairi Devereux in the corner. 19-0
Collie Joyce-Ahearne scored after eight minutes of the second half, which Birthday Boy converted. 26-0. Cruising now, Wexord made some excellent line breaks but did not execute the final pass. They then went through a period of 'laying off' and allowed Tullow a try on 25 minutes. Tullow rallied again and crossed one more time, with the final play.
Wexford can be happy with the tough workout and we have plenty to work on when we train on Monday.
We face DLS Churchtown in Wexford on Wednesday next at 2.00pm.

South Leinster Senior Hurling ‘C’ Final

An excellent defensive performance coupled with a remarkable seven point haul from play by Eoin Roche propelled Wexford CBS to a comfortable victory over Wicklow Schools in the South Leinster Senior Hurling ‘C’ final at Bellefield last Tuesday.
This result means Wexford CBS will compete in the Leinster Schools Senior Hurling ‘B’ championship next year and they will take on North Leinster champions Scoil Mhuire (Clane) in the Leinster semi-final next February.
CBS, coached by Fr. Brian Whelan and Willie Carley junior, could have had a super start when Ian Moran cut through the Wicklow defence and passed to Joe McBride who saw his stinging shot rebound off the crossbar. The Wexford defence quickly got on top of their opponents and led by Ciaran Kirwan they totally dominated proceedings.
It was Kirwan who picked out Sean Stafford for the opening score – a point – after three minutes. The first goal arrived soon afterwards and when Kirwan found Ian Moran who lashed the ball to the net.

Joe McBride was denied again (this time by the keeper) on ten minutes but Sean Stafford followed up to tap it over and make the score 1-2 to nil.

Wicklow Schools (made up of all secondary schools in County Wicklow apart from Colaiste Bhride in Carnew) were struggling to contain the Boker boys at this stage. However, Joe Coleman sent a screamer to the top right hand corner of the net in the 25^th minute which put CBS 2-7 to 0-1 in front and this gave the Wexford students a considerable cushion.
Eoin Roche scored three of his seven points in the first half which helped his team-mates go in at the break ahead by 2-9 to 0-1.
Wicklow were awarded a 21 yard free early in the second half which was saved and cleared while at the other end after nice passing Eoin Roche opened the scoring with his fourth point and captain Jamie McDonnell raced through to tap over shortly afterwards.
Wicklow Schools never gave up but they couldn’t find a way through the CBS rearguard well marshalled by Ciaran Kirwan and Evan Dunbar. All of their points came from frees except one from play by midfielder Padraig Doyle.
All of the CBS forwards scored as well as both midfielders which is a testament to the dominance they exerted over their opposition. After the game Leinster Council’s Pat Henderson presented the trophy to CBS captain Jamie McDonnell.
After losing South Leinster finals in juvenile and junior in recent years, this victory is a reward to the players for their continued improvement and dedication. A major factor in this victory is that ten of the team are on the Combined Schools panel.

This was the CBS’s tenth match since September (four championship and six challenge) and with injured players Stephen Kearney, Liam Barry and Richie Cleary to come back into the fold they will look forward to the challenge that Leinster champions Scoil Mhuire (Clane) will present in February.

Wexford CBS produced a display of electric attacking intent to overcome Enniscorthy CBS 2-1, with the home side proving to be a very frustrating opposition. Wexford showed a marvellous combination of style and speed to beat Enniscorthy, whose game-plan was far more physical.

Athletics

Congratulations to David McDonald who won silver at the National Multi Event competition in Athlone last weekend. He scored over 3000 points in the Junior section and now will represent Ireland in Scotland in February. David ran a PB in the 200m of 23.77sec. He also ran a PB of 8.84 sec. in the hurdles. Well done David in all your athletic achievements in 2013.

First Year Mini-Companies

Our First Year entrepreneurs, Nathan Flynn, Shane Moore and Shane Doyle, took part in a display in Bank Of Ireland today. They were selling scented candles and hand knitted hats and scarfs from the movie, ' Despicable Me'. They managed to sell out their products, well done lads.

Senior Hurling - South Leinster 'C' Semi-Final

This South Leinster Schools Senior Hurling ‘C’ semi-final in Pairc Charman was competitive for the first ten minutes. Then Wexford CBS took a foothold in the game and went on to dominate  their opponents and clinch a place in the South Leinster final.
The New Ross men backboned by Kilkenny minor Alan Murphy, his brother Shane and club colleague Philip Roche couldn’t handle the home side’s better balance.

CBS led at the break by 3-9 to 0-3 with goals coming from Mikey Coleman, his cousin Joe Coleman and the third from John Forde following a strong run from centre-back Ciaran Kirwan.

Indeed Kirwan very adequately handled Alan Murphy who was switched to centre-field after 20 minutes where Jamie McDonnell hurled very well on the Kilkenny man.
The Wexford students scored some lovely points in the first half with Joe Coleman, Eoin Roche and Joe McBride impressing.
On the restart, CBS kept their foot on the gas and reeled off points from Joe Coleman (2), Sean Stafford, Ian Moran and a neat brace from Rob Donnelly.
Alan Murphy was New Ross VC’s scoring threat and four of his six points came from placed balls. Brad Cohen made a smart save at the expense of a ’65 which was converted but there was no way back as CBS added the points and ran out winners by a comfortable margin.

A much sterner test awaits the Boker boys in the final in the shape of Wicklow Schools who are a combination of all the schools in Wicklow except Colaiste Bhride (Carnew).

Senior Soccer

Wexford C.B.S....2  Bridgetown V.S....0

On Friday 15^th of November the senior soccer side of Wexford CBS finished out their group campaign with a 100% record after a real battle down in Bridgetown. The result puts the Bokerboys straight into the Semi-Finals of the competition and they will be unlikely to be in action before the Christmas holidays.

Wexford CBS were missing a number of their regular starting players from this season. Bridgetown started the game in determined fashion and looked to put the Bokerboys under pressure from the start. They had the better of the games early exchanges but found the CBS defence in defiant form as they have been in every game this season, during this period Joe Coleman had to tip one long range effort wide of the post. Bridgetown were very physical in this early period and it took the CBS a bit of time to settle and find their rhythm, on their first real attack Cian Doyle broke well down the left wing beating two players before passing to Richie Kearney who unleashed a swerving effort from outside the box which beat the keeper but crashed off the crossbar and Bridgetown cleared the danger. The game was proving to be a really tough affair with neither side really getting on top; Bridgetown lost their influential captain midway through the first half. Best for the CBS at this point was Cian Doyle who was causing the home side all sorts of problems with his marauding runs down the left flank. As the game wore on the CBS got their passing game going and had a good ten minute spell. Cian Doyle again made a dangerous run down the left wing beating 3 players before finding Kearney with a neat pass Kearney laid the ball into the path of onrushing midfielder Ian Moran who hit a powerful goalbound effort which took a deflection before beating the keeper to give the CBS the lead. Before the end of the half Bridgetown did manage to fashion a very good chance some good work down the right wing, and their right winger sent in a dangerous cross and a defensive mix up saw two CBS defenders compete for the same ball which fell to the back post and an unmarked Bridgetown player fired narrowly over as the CBS were let off.

In the second half, Bridgetown came out determined to get nack into the game and very nearly did, as a well struck effort from just outside the box hit the wrong side of the post before going wide. Wexford CBS responded to this wake-up call and really started to get on top in terms of possession as they passed the ball with real purpose. Within 5 minutes they had doubled their lead, Ian Moran won a freekick on the edge of the box, up stepped Richie Kearney and his effort was saved but fumbled by Bridgetown’s keeper, Eoghan Whitty was quickly on hand to finish from close range 2-0 Wexford CBS. The CBS dominated most of the second half and created some good openings but could found their route to goal often blocked down by determined defending, and even after that Bridgetown’s keeper was in fine form. Richie Kearney thought he had finally opened his account after some fine work down the right wing from Lar Stoutt and Eoghan Whitty but his close range effort was spectacularly tipped over for a corner. Jamie MacDonnell and Sean Stafford were driving the team forward from the middle as the CBS looked to add a third. Substitute Jessie Farrell came close also but his effort was well blocked. Bridgetown did their best to get back in the game and threw everything forward but their efforts found no reward as the CBS repelled every attack. A very good win for the CBS after a really physical contest against a resilient Bridgetown side. The Bokerboys now advance to the semi-final stage of the competition with 3 wins from 3. So far this team has shown remarkable team strength and will again need to dig deep in order to continue to progress in the competition. Best for the CBS on the day were Jamie MacDonnell, Eoghan Whitty, Cian Doyle and man of the match Lar Stoutt.
