Here is another blast from the past, a talented bunch of players that represented The Boker for the first time in F.A.I.S. coppetition. The kit was borrowed from North End for the occasion. A 3-0 victory away to New Ross C.B.S. was our opening result and the team went on to reach the final of the Wexford - Wicklow League. Unfortunately the silverware evaded us but the foundation was laid for many victories in the future.

U.15 Soccer Team Hit 8

Our U-15 Soccer Team travelled to Mayglass to take on Bridgetown VC in their first league game last Friday. On what was a very blustery day, the CBS kicked-off playing against a strong wind. As the game began to settle down, CBS began to spread the ball around the pitch and Bridgetown had no answer.
CBS took the lead through an Emmett Ryan flick header. CBS continued to dominate. Emmett made it 2-0 just ten minutes later.

Swimming, Opera and Radio

Transition years had a busy day. Swimming at 9.15, where they had some underwater photographs taken as well as some water polo, then back across the river to the Wexford Opera Festival for a performance of Gianni Schicci in Whites Hotel. The themes of deception, legacies, love, marriage , money and the lack of it, certainly kept the boys interest alive during the performance. Finally a group of 12 pupils were selected to produce a radio programme with Lyric FM ably assisted by the girls from nearby Presentation Convent.

South Leinster Junior C Hurling championship: Semi-final, Hollymount Monday, 24 October 2011

Wexford CBS......................2-4
Wicklow Schools................0-7

THIS GAME was a thriller. While the standard of hurling was curtailed by the dreadful weather conditions throughout, the outcome was in doubt right up until the final whistle and both sides deserve enormous credit for their endeavour and honesty.
However, semi-finals are for winning and it was Wexford CBS who booked their place in the South Leinster Junior Colleges ‘C’ hurling final following this three point victory over Wicklow Schools in Hollymount last Monday.
Scores were always going to be very hard to come by as the rain fell for the sixty minutes and it proved that CBS’s two goals were crucial to their progress. They led at half-time by 1-2 to 0-3 and importantly held on to that lead until the end.
Stephen Kearney and Joe Coleman flashed over the first half points for the Bokerboys and these scores sandwiched a fine poacher’s goal by John Forde who pounced on a loose ball in the goalmouth and flicked it to the net.
CBS could so easily have had another goal in that opening half when Joe Coleman neatly passed to Ian Moran and he raced through the Wicklow defence but his wicked shot to the corner was somehow saved by the goalkeeper.
Both sides got on top at various stages and it was the defences who ruled. Outstanding in the CBS defence were Sean Stafford, Nicky Lawlor and Ciaran Kirwan and they were helped out by a tenacious display by Jamie McDonnell and Gary Murphy in midfield.
The key score of the game arrived in the 42nd minute. CBS’s hardworking centre-forward Eoin Roche won possession in midfield and went on a strong run through the heart of the defence. Having caught the ball twice during the solo-run he gave the impression he was set to pass to a colleague but instead tossed the ball up and drove a stinging shot to the top right hand corner of the net.
It gave CBS a terrific boost but Wicklow Schools (all County Wicklow secondary school except Carnew VEC) stood up to the challenge and converted two frees to leave the score at 2-2 to 0-5 entering the final ten minutes.
However Jamie McDonnell cleverly nicked a point for the CBS but Wicklow responded at the other end (2-3 to 0-6) before the visitors cut the gap to two points to set up a nervous finish for the Wexford town school.
In the 56th minute John Forde was fouled and Joe Coleman showed composure to split the posts to restore the three point advantage. The defence continued to withstand Wicklow pressure and with Adam McDade eagle-eyed in goal combined with the efforts of the outfield players, they just about held out for victory after an epic struggle.
Wexford CBS:
Adam McDade (Faythe Harriers); Liam Barry (Faythe Harriers), Ciaran Kirwan (Faythe Harriers), James Somers (Faythe Harriers); Nicky Lawlor (Faythe Harriers), Sean Stafford (St. Martin’s, Capt.), Luke Byrne (Faythe Harriers); Jamie McDonnell (Faythe Harriers, 0-1), Gary Murphy (Faythe Harriers); Stephen Kearney (Faythe Harriers, 0-1), Eoin Roche (Faythe Harriers, 1-0), Joseph McBride (St. John’s); Ian Moran (Glynn-Barntown), Joe Coleman (St. Martin’s 0-2, 1 free), John Forde (Shelmaliers, 1-0).

Senior Rugby Development Cup Rd. 2

Wexford C.B.S....9  Colaiste Brid, Carnew...8

A vey youthful Wexford team took the field today, all bar one player are eligible for next year, against a bigger side from Carnew. However Wexford played with a competent style and their experience stood them well as they contested for every ball and made every tackle. The game ebbed and flowed and only a penalty seperated the sides at the break, wirh Carnew being successful after 17 mins.
Wexford had the wind at their back for the second half and played a territorial game, kicking behind the defense and were unlucky when Ian Moran came close to scoring. Eoin Roche had his kicking boots on, and converted two kicks to make it 6-3 after 20 mins. With the clock ticking down Wexford were put on the back foot and a break through the defence secured Carnew a vital try to give them the lead 8-6 with four minutes remaining. Wexford adopted the pick and go and eventually were awarded a penalty for infringing at the ruck. Eoin Roche slotted from 35m the winning kick and advance the Bokerboys to Rd. 3
Team: James Byrne, Steve Roche, James Roche, Michael Maguir, Darragh Comiskey, Gavin Byrne, Collie Joyce-Ahearne, Ciaran Kavanagh (Capt.), John Joe Browne, Ian Moran, Eoin Roche, Dylan Lalor, Mikey Roche, Liam Barry, Gavin O'Connor.

Wexford C.B.S...0   Scoil Chonglais....3

This game literally went down to the last kick, after an hour of hard fought rugby. Wexford had a reasonable amount of possession but failed to break through a solid defence. They tried to go around them, over them and through them but to no avail.

Footloose - The Musical

Some of the Footloose cast were touring the Primary and Secondary schools of Wexford on Friday last to promote their up coming musical. A huge amount of work has gone into this production by all concerned so we hope everyone will acknowledge this by attending their performances next week.

The CBS and the Presentation have joined forces to put on the popular musical 'Footloose', based on the award winning movie of the same name. Auditions were held last June and the students have been working hard since September to perfect their American accents. Gavin Byrne is playing the lead role of Ren, a slick city kid whos forced to relocate to a remote mid-western town, where all forms of dance (and having fun!) are banned. There he falls in love with local bad girl Ariel, played by Samantha Carr, but the course of true love never runs smoothly
The supporting cast includes, Niamh Doyle, Jack Robinson, Marty Mullally, Jessica Walker, Danny Fitzpatrick, Jessica Guiney, Luke Jackson, Laura Reck and Gabija Varnelyte who are accompanied by a full live band. The show is directed by Clodagh Cecil, choreographed by Lauren Byrne and musically directed by local singer Roisin Dempsey .The chorus mistress in CBS music teacher Niele Kavanagh.
The show runs from October 17th to 21st in the Presentation hall. The Monday night show starts at 7pm to facilitate younger students. The start time is 8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Friday night's show is at 8.30 pm. Tickets are on sale from Saturday the 9th of October from Whites Music Store. The show is packed with a number of well known songs including the 80's hit 'I Need a Hero'. It's full of comedy and lively dance numbers and is suitable for all ages.

T.Y.'s Retreat

Transition year students were on Retreat last Thursday with Fr. Brian Whelan, Mrs. Hayes, Ms Spellman and Ms. Wallace, an enjoyable time was has by all as they reflected upon their place and how to do good on this planet.
If at first you fail, then you try again and again.

First Year Football Blitz.

Wexford CBS can be proud of their efforts in the annual Keevans Cup tournament for first years held in Pairc Garman on Wednesday 12th October. While they eventually claimed 3rd place in their section, they were most unfortunate not to do even better and bring home some silverware..

Wexford CBS 1-2 Good Council New Ross 2-2
In the opening game Wexford CBS faced pre tournament favourites Good Council College. The New Ross side had the better start but The CBS boys came storming back with a great goal from Nicky Kelly to be level at half time. They took the lead early in the second half with a point from Lee Busher but a controversial goal given when CBS Goalie Kevin Corrigan was bundled into the net while saving the ball sealed the victory for the New Ross boys. Best for CBS were Jack Houghton, Alan Browne, Nicky Kelly and Aaron Smythe . Wexford CBS scorers were Nicky Kelly (1-0) and Lee Busher (0-2)

Wexford CBS 2-3 Enniscoerthy CBS 2-4
Wexford took out their frustration at the opening defeat with blistering opening to their second game. They totally dominated the Enniscorthy side who had won their opening game in the tournament. Two goals from Lee Busher and points from Jack Houghton and Kevin meant they had a decent lead at half time but some super saves from the Enniscorthy keeper kept them in the game. Wexford CBS would later regret some of these misses as the Enniscorthy lads came back into the game. Despite a solid defensive effort when the final whistle sounded there was a single point between the teams and Enniscorthy were on their way to the final. Best for CBS were Eoin Mahon, Everett Johnston and Paul Bailie. Wexford CBS scorers were Lee Busher (2-1) Jack McGarry (0-1) and Jack Houghton (0-1)

Wexford CBS 3-5 St Peters College 3-2
In the final game Wexford CBS faced their local rivals from St Peters College. In a highly entertaining and end to end game Wexford CBS went into an early lead and would hold this advantage to the end of the game. It was by far their best performance of the day with scores coming from all over the field. Goals from Izac Doyle, Sean Hopkins and Lee Busher set them up for a very good win and third place overall. Best for CBS were Danny Walsh, Kevin Corrigan, Sean Hopkins and Terry Whitty. Wexford CBS scorers were Sean Hopkins (1-1), Lee Busher (1-1), Izac Doyle (1-0), Lee Walsh (0-2) and Everett Johnston (0-1)
