Juvenile Hurling

Challenge match: January 18, 2012
Wexford CBS.......6-5      St. Peter’s College...........7-4
A large squad of 32 hurlers made the short journey up to St. Peter’s College to play a challenge game and it proved to be a useful exercise as CBS gear up for life in the South Leinster ‘B’ championship and the Rice Cup.
CBS started very sharply and Kevin Birney pounced on a long ball from Stephen Kearney and pulled the ball to the net. Stephen Rossiter followed up with a point before midfielder Dillon Dixon ghosted in and lashed the ball to the net in the tenth minute.
St. Peter’s responded with 1-1 before Stephen Kearney found the net and CBS finished the half stronger with points from Stephen Rossiter and two from Conor Coleman.
The half time score was CBS 3-4 St. Peter’s 1-2.
CBS started the second half with an entirely new team and struggled to keep pace with St. Peter’s who scored three quick goals to snatch the lead.
However Jesse Farrell got CBS back in the match with a neat point and TJ Ferguson pulled the ball to the net in the 45th minute to help his team keep in touch.
Jesse Farrell crashed a 21 yard free to the St. Peter’s net and Dion Murphy scored CBS’s sixth goal in the 58th minute but St. Peter’s had built up too big a lead for CBS to haul them in.
However everyone got plenty of game-time and it was an encouraging start to what will be a busy few months.
