South Leinster Junior Hurling B Championship round 3

Wexford CBS................................4-11
FCJ Bunclody................................3-9

Group leaders FCJ Bunclody visited Pairc Charman for this round three championship game played in splendid sunshine on a superb surface. The away team enjoyed the wind in the first half of what was a very even 30 minutes.
Luke Dowdall did all the graft for Jordan Hayes to fire to the net in the fifth minute but at the other end the Bunclody boys were lashing over the points and after ten minutes it was 1-1 to 0-3. Cian Rossiter worked hard to win possession for Jordan Hayes to point.
Hayes scored a fine individual point moments later and then Jack O’Leary bundled the ball over the line after a mazy run. However Bunclody registered a goal of their own just before the break as the CBS defence was caught out. It was 2-3 to 1-6 at the break.
CBS dominated the third quarter with the wind helping them. Chris Cowman and Jack O’Leary pointed and then Cathal Kirwan cleverly passed to Luke Dowdall who skilfully batted the ball to the net. This put CBS 3-5 to 1-6 ahead. Three further points from Jordan Hayes (from a free won by Ben McMahon), Cormac Byrne and Jordan Hayes stretched the lead.
Back came Bunclody and they struck for two goals as some strong first team players ** were introduced towards beginning of the final quarter. However, the Boker boys showed great attitude and Jack O’Leary fired home a cracker of a goal to make it 4-8 to 2-8.
Cathal Kirwan was fouled for Jordan Hayes to convert, Cian O’Connor split the posts from a Cathal Kirwan pass and centre-back and captain Cormac Byrne fired over the last point to seal the win. FCJ’s third goal arrived before Cormac Byrne’s point.
This was by far Wexford CBS’s best performance of the year and it’s a shame the team didn’t show this attitude, commitment and work in their previous games.
