Juvenile Hurling News - Challenge Match: Friday Feb 3, 2012

Wexford CBS...................2-7  St. Peter’s College...........4-2
A couple of late goals denied the juvenile hurlers a victory in this well contested practise match at a bitter cold Power Park. However it was an excellent work out in preparation for the South Leinster B Championship and the Rice Cup in March.
CBS started very well with Conor Coleman somehow squeezing the ball between the posts from a very tight angle. St. Peter’s responded with 1-1 before Stephen Kearney pointed to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-2.
To prove that his first point wasn’t a fluke Conor Coleman squeezed another one over after 15 minutes but CBS were rocked with the concession of another goal shortly afterwards.
CBS dominated the rest of the half with Dylan Dixon converting a free and then came the score of the game when Liam Rockett and Conor Coleman combined to set up Stephen Kearney for a sweet point. Stephen Kearney then set up Conor Coleman for his third point to leave the score at 2-2 to 0-6 at the break.
St. Peter’s dominated the start of the second half and grabbed their third goal to build up a four point lead but Lee Busher pounced for the first of his two goals following a period of pressure after a good attacking run from Conor Coleman.
Minutes later Dylan Dixon went on a searing run but his stinging shot was parried by the keeper and Busher was quickest to react again and batted the ball over the line. St. Peter’s grabbed their fourth goal in the 56th minute and the final score of the game arrived when Darragh Rossiter surged upfield and passed to Stephen Rossiter who fired a long range point.

U.14 Footballers Reach Final

South Leinster Juvenile C Football Championship semi-final
Wexford CBS v Presentation De La Salle, Bagnelstown
McGrath Park, Bagnelstown
Thursday 26 January 2012

Wexford CBS .....................................................2-08
Presentation De La Salle Bagnelstown.............3-04
Despite trailing by six points at the interval the juvenile (u14 ½) footballers of Wexford C.B.S. put in a sterling second half shift packed with determination to qualify for the South Leinster ‘C’ final.
Losing by 3-4 to 2-1 at the break, it looked like a tall order for the Wexford lads even with the advantage of a strong breeze. However they held their Bagnelstown opponents scoreless in the second half while tagging on seven points themselves to earn their place in the final.
Played in McGrath Park, Bagnelstown last Thursday the C.B.S. dominated proceedings for the opening ten minutes and Shane McGrath and Dylan Dixon penetrated the Bagnelstown rearguard to pilfer two goals after six and eight minutes.
The home side were rocked but eventually got into the game and with the benefit of the wind, enjoyed enough possession to break through the C.B.S. defence to score three goals and they surged further ahead with four points.
Shane McGrath added to his tally with a pointed free in the dying minutes of the first half to leave six between the sides at the interval.
There was a marked change in the workrate and attitude of the C.B.S. players from the throw-in and they showed tremendous belief to get themselves back into the game. Resolute defending and sheer hard work meant that the Bokerboys owned the ball.
Jesse Farrell started the comeback with a great point off his left boot. Following this the Wexford lads rarely left the Carlow men’s half. Constant pressure led to Bagnelstown conceding frees which Shane McGrath punished with three fine points out of his hands.
In the 50th minute Conor Coleman kicked the score of the game with a long range point from the right hand sideline. At this stage there was just the bare minimum between the sides and the Wexford town school maintained the pressure heir and were rewarded when Liam Rockett levelled the match with five minutes to go.
C.B.S. went for the winner and midfielder Dillon Dixon gathered possession and split the posts with what turned out to be the winning point.
A strong team performance in the second half was ultimately responsible for this victory but special mention must go to Stephen Kearney, Darragh Rossiter, Shane McGrath, Michael Lawlor, Jesse Farrell and Eoin Doyle.

Wexford C.B.S......29  Bridgetown V.S......10
Wexford played without the ball for the first 10mins of this game but defended very well. Once we got our hands on the ball we began to move towards the oppositions 22, and Joe Coleman was on hand to drive over for a try, which he converted himself. 7-0 Again Wexford were in the 22 and scrum half Stephen Healy blocked down a clearing kick then managed to get the touchdown. Joe Coleman converted. 14-0
The second half was only 2 mins old when Shaun Donaghue scored. Bridgetown replied with a try before Conor Fenlon sealed victory for C.B.S. with well taken try. Bridgetown scored in the final min to narrow the margin, but the Bokerboys advance to the Semi-finals.

U.15 Soccer

The U-15 Soccer Team played Enniscorthy VC in the ¼ final of the Wicklow/Wexford School League on Tuesday. A tough game was expected from the offing.
Enniscorthy won the coin-toss. Early possession favoured Enniscorthy, they passed well and peppered Wexford CBS’s goal with numerous half chances. Wexford’s back line of Aaron Goodison, Emmet Sinnott, Eoin Doyle and Alex Lohier repelled a rampant Enniscorthy early on. Another good save from goalkeeper Shane McGrath kept the score line 0-0.
Wexford slowly began to establish themselves in the game with Darragh Rossiter breaking up play. He set up Dylan Ennis down the left wing but it came to nothing. Another tackle by Luke Redmond-Browne gave the ball to Emmett Ryan but once again the attack was smothered by Enniscorthy’s defence.
Enniscorthy were still enjoying the lions share of possession when Wexford broke up the left wing, a good pass forward from Aaron Goodison found Dylan Ennis, who was fouled attempting some neat trickery, free-kick. Eoin McDonald stepped up and fired the ball into the box, hesitation from both goalkeeper and the defence let the ball fly into the net. 1-0 to Wexford.
Enniscorthy again enjoyed more possession and played Wexford off the park for the majority of the first half. Their dominance finally paid off as a corner from the left produced a towering header to the back of the net. Wexford 1-1 Enniscorthy.
Emmet Sinnott broke up another Enniscorthy attack. Darragh Rossiter and Dylan Ennis both tested Enniscorthy’s goalkeeper late in the half. Mikey Lawlor’s efforts up front were still leaving him empty handed. Half-time, Wexford CBS 1-1 Enniscorhty VC
Wexford sub: Brendan Furlong for Emmett Ryan (injured)
Kick-off
Positional changes helped Wexford at last impose themselves on the game. A new midfield of Luke Redmond-Browne, Eoin McDonald, Mikey Lawlor and Brendan Furlong began to dominate. Eoin Doyle cleared an Enniscorthy attack; the Wexford lads passed and moved the ball with ease now, setting up another Darragh Rossiter chance.
Shane McGrath found Brendan Furlong in space with a clever goal-kick. Brendan and Mikey Lawlor set up Darragh again. After a goalkeeping blunder Daragh eventually passed the ball to the net. 2-1 to Wexford. Wexford sub: Dylan Dixon for Luke Redmond-Browne
Wexford were now rampant, helped by Eoin McDonald winning numerous tackles and Aaron Goodison’s impressive display at left back. A free-kick just inside Enniscorthy’s half set up Eoin McDonald again. Eoin let fly an unstoppable shoot from all of 30 yards. Enniscorthy’s keeper could only watch the ball hit the back of the net. 3-1 to Wexford
Wexford sub: Joe Redmond for Dylan Ennis
Enniscorthy needing goals pushed forward but Wexford’s back-line stood firm.
Wexford sub: Robert Donnelly for Alex Lohier
Wexford sprung another attack, Dylan Dixon broke up the left wind but it came to nothing. Brendan Furlong shot wide of the mark after creating an opening. With Enniscorthy now throwing caution to the wind looking for goals, Wexford broke away and a neat finish from Darragh Rossiter made it 4-1 to the CBS.
Wexford sub: Tony Crosbie for Mikey Lawlor
With time running out, Joe Redmond broke forward; his low cross from the right was easily cleared. Tony Crosbie had another decent chance but found his shot blocked by the Enniscorthy rear guard.
Final Whistle
Wexford CBS 4-1 Enniscorthy VC
Scorers: Darragh Rossiter x2, Eoin McDonald x2.
Good performance by both teams, however Wexford CBS will probably need to improve to advance to the final on this showing. Well done lads!

Juvenile Hurling

Challenge match: January 18, 2012
Wexford CBS.......6-5      St. Peter’s College...........7-4
A large squad of 32 hurlers made the short journey up to St. Peter’s College to play a challenge game and it proved to be a useful exercise as CBS gear up for life in the South Leinster ‘B’ championship and the Rice Cup.
CBS started very sharply and Kevin Birney pounced on a long ball from Stephen Kearney and pulled the ball to the net. Stephen Rossiter followed up with a point before midfielder Dillon Dixon ghosted in and lashed the ball to the net in the tenth minute.
St. Peter’s responded with 1-1 before Stephen Kearney found the net and CBS finished the half stronger with points from Stephen Rossiter and two from Conor Coleman.
The half time score was CBS 3-4 St. Peter’s 1-2.
CBS started the second half with an entirely new team and struggled to keep pace with St. Peter’s who scored three quick goals to snatch the lead.
However Jesse Farrell got CBS back in the match with a neat point and TJ Ferguson pulled the ball to the net in the 45th minute to help his team keep in touch.
Jesse Farrell crashed a 21 yard free to the St. Peter’s net and Dion Murphy scored CBS’s sixth goal in the 58th minute but St. Peter’s had built up too big a lead for CBS to haul them in.
However everyone got plenty of game-time and it was an encouraging start to what will be a busy few months.

Wexford CBS (first half): Shane McGrath; Danny Walsh, Daniel Lynch, Kevin Corrigan; Padraig Rossiter, Darragh Rossiter, Liam Hore; Stephen Kearney (1-0), Dillon Dixon (1-0); Gary Cullen, Stephen Rossiter (0-2), Liam Rockett; Cormac Byrne, Conor Coleman (0-2), Kevin Birney (1-0).
