Leinster Junior Rugby Development Shield Final

Wexford C.B.S...14  Malihide C.S...25
Wexford were up against a big physical side in todays final and it was their true grit and determination that kept them fighting to the very end. Trailing 20-0 approaching half time Wexford finally got their hands on the ball and captain Conor Fenlon scored a fine try which Joe Coleman converted. These 7 points gave Wexford  hope.
The second half began with Wexford in possession and they pounded the line but were unable to breakthrough.
Eventuall Chris Vickery managed to score again Coleman converted and it was game on at 20-14. However Malihide managed the next scored and left Wexford with too big a mountain to climb as time ran out.
As usual Wexford fought with imense conviction and each player gave his all and can live with the belief that it was not to be on this occassion.

Hurling - Juvenile 'B'

South Leinster Juvenile B Hurling championship – Round 3
Tuesday March 20th

Enniscorthy CBS...............................6-9
Wexford CBS....................................5-11

A brave second half comeback by the Boker boys just fell short in the third round of the South Leinster Juvenile B Hurling championship at St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy recently.
Wexford CBS trailed by 4-6 to 0-6 at half-time after playing into the strong wind. Stephen ‘Turk’ Kearney scored five of our points (three from frees) and Stephen Rossiter scored the other.
However, Enniscorthy CBS scored four goals in a row midway through the first half and they were all rockets which Jack Haughton had no chance to save.
With the wind in their backs, the Boker boys stormed back into the game in the second half. The Turk’s free from 40 yards went all the way to the Enniscorthy net and then CBS had a point from Shane McGrath and a really wonderful point from Dylan Dixon when he soloed the full length of the field with three men in pursuit before tipping the ball over the bar.
The Enniscorthy CBS keeper made another super save but the pressure was beginning to tell and CBS were awarded a penalty which Turk Kearney drove to the net. Aaron McGuire and Conor Coleman were up next with goals to leave the score at 5-8 to 4-9 but the Enniscorthy lads took off again with their sixth goal.
However Conor Coleman pointed a free and Jesse Farrell nipped over a neat point before Dylan Dixon passed to Stephen Rossiter who found the net to leave just one point between the sides.
The final whistle was blown on an epic encounter on the puck-out and Enniscorthy CBS had sealed the win which ensured their qualification from the group as winners. Unfortunately for CBS, Gorey Community School pip them for the other qualification spot.
Daniel Lynch, Darragh Rossiter, Liam Hore, Liam Rockett and Stephen Kearney were outstanding for Wexford CBS and the Flo-Gas league starts after Easter.
Wexford CBS: Jack Haughton (Faythe Harriers); Cormac Byrne (Faythe Harriers), Daniel Lynch (Faythe Harriers), Kevin Harte (Shelmaliers); Padraig Rossiter (St. Martin’s), Darragh Rossiter (St. Martin’s), Liam Hore (Faythe Harriers); Liam Rockett (Shelmaliers), Dylan Dixon (Blackwater 0-1); Aaron McGuire (Volunteers 1-0), Stephen Kearney (Faythe Harriers 2-6, 1-4 frees, 1-0 pen), Stephen Rossiter (Shelmaliers 1-1); Adam Carroll (Faythe Harriers), Shane McGrath (Faythe Harriers 0-1), Conor Coleman (St. Martin’s 1-1 free).

Hurling - Rice Cup

Game 1:
Wexford CBS 0-3 Kilkenny CBS 3-5
Kilkenny were a very strong side but Wexford contained them for the first half as the half-time score was 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of Kilkenny CBS. Our points came from Aaron McGuire and Conor Coleman who converted a free.
However Kilkenny CBS turned up the heat in the second half and pulled away from us with three fine goals.

Game 2:
Wexford CBS 0-4 Templemore CBS 3-6
Templemore had drawn with Kilkenny in an earlier game and they were also a really good side. They had some huge players who were very talented. The half-time score was 2-5 to 0-1 with our point being the best one scored as Eoin Doyle passed to Liam Rockett who played in Conor Coleman for a lovely score.
The Tipp lads were bigger and better than Wexford CBS but we never gave up and battled away for the second half. Liam Rockett fed Kevin Corrigan for our second point while Liam Rockett and Aaron McGuire got further second half points.
Wexford CBS: Danny Walsh; Kevin Harte, Cormac Byrne, Terry Whitty; Sean Hopkins, Daniel Lynch, Liam Hore; Eoin Doyle, Liam Rockett (0-1); Gary Cullen, Conor Coleman (0-1), Adam Carroll; Lee Busher, Aaron McGuire (0-1), Alan Browne.

Game 3:
Wexford CBS 1-3 Nenagh CBS 2-7
The Boker boys led Nenagh at half-time by 1-1 to 0-2 but the Tipperary school made a storming comeback in the second half as our lads seemed to tire.
Conor Coleman opened the scoring with a pointed free and our goal arrived following a long free from Liam Hore which was grabbed by Conor Coleman who saw his shot saved by the Nenagh keeper but Kevin Corrigan smashed home the rebound.
Nicky Kelly and Eoin Doyle had second half points for Wexford CBS but Nenagh grabbed two second half goals to win by seven points.
Wexford CBS: Jack Haughton; Kevin Harte, Daniel Lynch, Aaron Smythe; Sean Hopkins, Cormac Byrne, Liam Hore; Eoin Doyle (0-1), Liam Rockett; Aaron McGuire, Conor Coleman (0-1 free), Nicky Kelly (0-1); Lee Busher, Kevin Corrigan (1-0), Jack McGarry.
Subs: Gary Cullen for Cormac Byrne inj., Adam Carroll for Kevin Corrigan.

Game 4:
Wexford CBS 2-6 Callan CBS 1-2
Our first victory arrived in the last round as CBS had a right old tussle with Callan CBS. We led by 1-3 to 0-1 at half-time. Conor Coleman scored the goal after a fine solo run and he also added a point as did Aaron McGuire and Liam Rockett.
Liam Rockett surged upfield to get three points after the break but it wasn’t until Conor Coleman’s second goal that the game was safe as the Kilkenny boys looked dangerous when on the attack.
Wexford CBS: Jack Haughton; Kevin Harte, Daniel Lynch, Aaron Smythe; Nicky Kelly, Liam Rockett (0-4), Liam Hore; Eoin Doyle, Aaron McGuire (0-1); Sean Hopkins, Conor Coleman (2-1), Adam Carroll; Lee Busher, Kevin Corrigan, Noel O’Brien.
Subs: Alan Browne for Lee Busher, Jack McGarry for Sean Hopkins.

Junior Rugby Super Semi-Final Victory

Leinster Junior Development Shield
Wexford C.B.S....55  Hartstown C.S....24
Wexford C.B.S. have reached the Final of this competition for the second year running and now are only 60 mins away from retaining their Leinster title. Wexford started very well with the backline moving the ball at every opportunity. A few chances presented themselves but escaped, then on 11 mins Dale Murphy-Butler broke through to open the scoring. 9 mins later Shaun Donaghue had extended the lead to 10-0. From the restart Joe Coleman took off and ran 60m to score a great try by the posts which he converted. Hatrstown responded in the corner to make it 17-5. Lar Stoutt scored and Joe Coleman converted before they got the final score of the half to make it 24-10 at the break.
The Bokerboys began the second half with great tempo and got further tries from Dale Murphy-Butler and Shaun Donaghue to open up a comfortable lead. This tally was added to by Joe Coleman and Shaun Donaghue who finished off his hatrick with another. Both  these were converted by Joe Coleman Alex Perez got the final try to add the gloss to a great team performance. Hartstown got two late scores to finish the scoring.
This was fantastic win and achieved with style, the backline moved very well scoring 6 tries while Joe Coleman had a personal score of 20 points. The front row Jason Guerrine, Alex Perez and Steve Cullen were powerful and were driven forward by the engine room of Donal Moore and Joe Redmond. The back row of Conor Fenlon, Joe Coleman and Lee Dryburg tackled and carried the ball flawlessly all day.
The half backs of Stephen Healy and David Tormey moved the backline effectively producing 6 tries. The centre pairing of Shaun Donaghue and Lar Stoutt is developing nicely and today they were rewarded with tries. Both wingers had their best games today Dale Murphy-Butler finished off moves while Gearoid Finn created well. Eoin McDonald is a rock at full back and his ' thou shalt not pass me' motto is unblemished.
It was great to welcome back Mikey Coleman after a long lay off through injury. Chris Vickery, Johnny Hamilton, Adam Culleton and Eoin Hickey also contributed handsomely when introduced.
Team: Eoin McDonald, Gearoid Finn, Shaun Donaghue, Lar Stoutt, Dale Murphy-Butler, David Tormey, Stephen Healy, Steve Cullen, Alex Perez, Jason Guerrine, Joe Redmond, Donal Moore, Lee Dryburg, Conor Fenlon (Capt.), Joe Coleman

U.16 Soccer . Wonderful Win In Gorey

Wexford C.B.S.....1 Gorey C.S.....0
On Tuesday 6th of March the Wexford CBS under 16 soccer team travelled up to Gorey with a point to prove after a disappointing result in New Ross. The Bokerboys did themselves and their school proud by coming away with a precious win after a tremendous team performance, in Gorey to ensure qualification for the semi-finals of the competition as group winners.
The game was played in blustery conditions in Gorey Community School’s pitch with Wexford having the wind at their backs in the first half. Wexford were in determined mood to prove a point and show their worth against their illustrious opponents and started brightly, getting on top early on in what was proving to be a real battle in the centre of midfield. The return to the side of team captain Robin Dempsey was certainly a help as he lead his side admirably in a first half proving to be a real contest, Wexford managed to get on top early on with some good work from Eoghan Whitty and Sean Donohue down the right flank creating an opening which Cian Doyle and then Mark Doyle both were unable find the target as their efforts were blocked. The game was contested mostly in midfield in the first half and the Bokerboys were edging it early on but found a resolute Gorey defence blocking and closing down every opportunity. Similarly Gorey found when they attacked that the CBS were in no mood to present their opponents with chances as the excellent pairing of Lar Stoutt and Richie Kearney imposed themselves on the game. As the half went on Wexford began to take a hold of the game and created a number of glorious opportunities as they began to break down the Gorey defence, Cian Doyle and Mark Doyle combined well to present a chance to onrushing winger Sean Donohue who then squared to opposite winger Darragh Rossiter, Rossiter took a touch before hitting a well-placed shot under the crossbar which was well saved by the Gorey keeper.
Wexford continued this pressure and forced a number of corners as they put Gorey under severe pressure but were finding themselves frustrated by failing to hit the target from each of these chances created before half time, with Robin Dempsey in particular beginning to take control of the game from the centre of the field.
The second half began with Gorey making a couple of changes and they started brightly by putting CBS under pressure but could not create many chances as they couldn’t force an opening due to the stellar defensive efforts of the CBS. Ian Moran came on for the tiring Emmet Sinnott as the Wexford side looked to take the initiative in the second half. Eoin MacDonald moved up front with Mark Doyle returning to his natural position on the left wing and Darragh Rossiter moved inside into the centre where he really began to cause havoc for the Gorey side. These changes allowed Wexford with renewed vigour to really take the game to the home side as they began to dominate possession of the football against the wind, knocking it about and making Gorey chase the game. Wexford intent now on winning the game, went on the offensive and came close to taking the lead on a number of occasions with Eoin MacDonald, Cian Doyle and Mark Doyle coming close to breaking the deadlock but unfortunately didn’t hit the target with Mark Doyle coming closest hitting the side netting, the chances coming from the tireless work of the front pairing. Gorey always looked to hit on the counter attack and made one good opening but found keeper Joe Coleman in defiant mood, saving well. The game seemed to be heading for only one outcome as Wexford continued to press and the pressure finally paid off as Dempsey stole possession before releasing Eoin MacDonald into a good position wide on the left MacDonald looked up and played a delightful pass into the path of Sean Donohue who made no mistake in finding the net with an unstoppable strike to give CBS the lead their performance deserved.
Gorey still had 15 minutes to find an equaliser but were finding chances hard to come by as the Wexford midfield and defence combined to thwart their efforts with Dempsey and Kearney in particular on top form. Gorey made a couple of changes as they looked to change the course of the game and did force a corner with 5 minutes remaining as they poured forward, however that corner was superbly taken by keeper Coleman with a fantastic catch and kick releasing Cian Doyle up front who came close to doubling Wexford’s advantage. Gorey continued to battle again in a tight contest in midfield but it was the Wexford side again coming out on top, with Dempsey dominant as they created a number of chances with both Doyles and Dempsey coming close with efforts but unable to hit the back of the net. Wexfords midfield really took a hold of the game into injury time as the referee somehow managed to find 7 minutes extra to be played during which time the game was again only going in one direction as the Bokerboys comfortably saw out the game. The team did themselves and their mentors proud and were well supported by squad members on the side-line, with a fantastic team performance. Captain Robin Dempsey produced a quality display of leadership and determination in the middle of the field and Richie Kearney in the heart of defence epitomised their team-mates performance.
Wexford CBS: Joe Coleman (Forth Celtic), Eoghan Whitty (Wexford Albion), Lar Stoutt (Curracloe Utd), Richie Kearney (North End), Emmet Sinnott (North End), Sean Donohue (North End), Robin Dempsey (C) (North End), Darragh Rossiter (Forth Celtic), Mark Doyle (North End), Cian Doyle (Wexford Celtic), Eoin MacDonald (Wexford Celtic), Subs; Ian Moran (Crossabeg) for Sinnott; also Eoin Doyle (Wexford Albion), Shane McGrath (Wexford Albion), Andrew McGuickan (Wexford Celtic), Luke Byrne (Wexford Albion), Jessie Farrell (Wexford Celtic), Aaron Goodison (Wexford Albion)

Computational Thinking Challenge Winner

Adrian O’Reilly, Crossabeg, a 6th year student in Coláiste Éamonn Rís, Wexford C.B.S. Secondary School, has won of the first ever Computational Thinking Challenge set by NUI Maynooth.
The competition, sponsored by Microsoft, was open to all students attending a secondary school in Ireland. There were over 2300 entries from 76 schools in 23 counties. The problem which is referred to as ‘The travelling salesman problem’ was first designed by an Irish mathematician in the 1800s. The challenge was to find the shortest route that connects 40 Irish towns in a closed loop, where each jump is at least 40km. There were 80 Irish towns and cities to choose from. Adrian, a past pupil of Crossabeg National School, found a path length of 1793km which is the shortest route that has ever been found for this problem.
The competition which has been ongoing over the past number of months was organised by the National University of Ireland, Maynooth to mark the launch with the launch of Maynooth’s new third level degree course, BSc in Computational Thinking. The course has been specifically designed to meet the demand from industry for graduates with strong analytical competence, problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
On Saturday April 28th, Adrian will be presented with 1st prize of an Xbox Kinect 360 at N.U.I. Maynooth’s University Day. A talk will be given on the whole area of Computational Thinking and there will be tours of the Computer Science Department afterwards.
Staff and students at the C.B.S. are extremely proud of Adrian’s wonderful achievement and wish him all the best in his future studies. Adrian hopes to become a Maths teacher and aims to pursue a degree in Mathematics Education in Maynooth after his Leaving Certificate.
