Under 17 Soccer

Wexford C.B.S....4   Ramsgrange C.S....2

Wexford CBS began their under 17 soccer season with a 4-2 victory over Ramsgrange Community School on Friday 30th September in Duncannon. The Wexford side began brightly playing some excellent football with their passing and movement giving them the edge early on. Dylan Walsh and Keith Morrissey were causing Ramsgrange serious problems down the flanks and were involved in numerous attacks as Wexford were dominant for the opening period, this pressure forced the Ramsgrange keeper into making some fine saves as Keith Morrissey and Mark Doyle went close. Dylan Walsh broke the dead lock after some good midfield play set him free on the right wing, Dylan took on the left back with success before cooly slotting home to make it 1-0. Keith Morrissey soon doubled the advantage after a nice one two played him in and he chipped the keeper to put CBS 2-0 up. Wexford continued to enjoy the majority of possession and went close on several occasions. Ramsgrange finally got a hold of the game towards the end of the first half and pulled one back in the final minute of the first half after Jamie McDonnell has made a good save but was unable to stop the close range follow up from winger Adam Blake. This goal gave the home side a much needed boost and they battled hard right from the beginning of the second half which saw both sides make some changes, Wexford were first to take a hold of the game again yet found the Ramsgrange defence in a defiant mood. Keith Morrisey was still running wild on the left wing and twice forced the Ramsgrange keeper into good saves as two curling efforts were heading for the top corner. The Ramsgrange effort finally paid dividends as a long ball over the top of the CBS defence allowed Adam Prendergast in and his effort beat McDonnel and levelled the scores. Wexford dug deep however and responded immediately with Cian Doyle breaking through and firing a low effort into the bottom corner to make it 3-2. Wexford continued to enjoy the lion's share of possession and should have increased their lead as Ramsgrange broke forward at every opportunity. Wexford finally regained the 2 goal cushion with a couple of minutes remaining as Keith Morrissey finally managed to beat the keeper with a spectacular curling effort from outside of the box into the top corner. Impressive for the Wexford side on the day were Morrissey and Wlash going forward and captain Dale Scallan and  Jason Kearns at the back.
