South Leinster Juvenile C Football Championship Rd.1

Baltinglass GAA Club, Friday 18 November 2011

Wexford CBS ..............................2-07
Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass.........1-08
Wexford CBS under-14 footballers made the long journey to Baltinglass last Friday for their opening game of the South Leinster Juvenile C championship and returned home with two well-earned points following this narrow victory.
From the throw-in CBS dominated possession and led by three points to one point thanks to the accuracy of Shane McGrath. Despite the early dominance of the Boker Boys, goalkeeper Nigel Donoghue had to be alert after fifteen minutes to pull off a great save as Baltinglass almost took advantage of some haphazard defending.
Nevertheless Wexford CBS remained positive and after twenty minutes Adam Carroll lobbed a high ball into the square that was misjudged by the Baltinglass rear-guard and ended up in the net.
The lead was extended to six points (1-4 to 0-1) with a great score by Liam Rockett after twenty five minutes. However Baltinglass dominated the end of the half and reduced their deficit with a goal and two points in the remaining five points to leave the bare minimum between the teams at half time.
Wexford CBS showed resolve and desire at the start of the second half which was best exemplified when Mikey Lawlor as he strode up the field to kick a fine point.
However, Baltinglass weren’t going to fade too easily on their home patch and they enjoyed a purple patch in which they kicked four points to lead by two (1-7 to 1-5).
When faced with defeat the CBS response was emphatic. In the 55th minute wing back Alan Browne escaped from his marker and lashed the ball to the top corner of the net.
With the shackles off, Wexford CBS got a firm grip of the game and Jesse Farrell and Darragh Rossiter got a point each in response to a Baltinglass point.
Best for CBS were Nigel Donoghue, Daniel Lynch, Mikey Lawlor, Padraig and Darragh Rossiter. Next up for the Wexford town school is home match against St. Kevin’s of Dunlavin.
