South Leinster Juvenile Hurling B Championship

Wednesday March 7th, 2012
Wexford CBS v FCJ Bunclody
At HWH Bunclody’s GAA grounds

Wexford CBS...............4-8     FCJ Bunclody.........3-7

Wexford CBS’s juvenile hurlers got their championship campaign back on track recently in Bunclody with a narrow but well deserved victory over FCJ Bunclody on Wednesday. CBS built up a 2-6 to 1-1 lead at half-time having had the benefit of the strong wind but they had to withstand a fierce comeback from the home side to head home with the points.
CBS lost their opening game against Gorey Community School and needed a win here to stay in the championship.
CBS were rocked by the concession of an early goal but they responded well and Stephen Kearney helped the Boker boys to get into the game with two points in the 6th and 9th minutes before he went on a fine solo run in the 13th minute and slammed the ball to the net.
Dylan Dixon gave Kearney a neat pass and the later pointed, before Kearney converted a free to leave CBS in front by 1-4 to 1-0. Kearney very nearly had another goal but his shot hit the post.
Stephen Rossiter fired over a point and then CBS got a great boost just before half-time when Conor Coleman blasted the ball to the net to leave the interval score at 2-6 to 1-1.
CBS enjoyed a tremendous start to the second half when Aaron McGuire put Dylan Dixon behind the FCJ defence with a clever pass and the midfielder sent the ball to the net. CBS very nearly got their fourth goal minutes later when Darragh Rossiter fed Stephen Kearney but his shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
This sparked FCJ into life and they gradually began to whittle down the CBS lead to three points by the 50th minute but Conor Coleman registered his second goal at a crucial time for the CBS to give his side a six point cushion again.
CBS were thankful to keeper Shane McGrath who made an outstanding save in the 54th minute and this seemed to inspire the defence who, led by Daniel Lynch, kept out wave after wave of FCJ Bunclody attacks.
