Wexford C.B.S....1 New Ross C.B.S....1
Wexford CBS left New Ross with mixed emotions on Friday 2nd March after a hard fought encounter with New Ross CBS. A late equaliser from Jessie Farrell salvaged a point for the boker boys but they will feel they could have gotten more from the game which they dominated for large spells.
Wexford missing captain Robin Dempsey, began brightly on the New Ross Celtic pitch but failed to turn any early pressure into goals as New Ross looked to close down and frustrate their opponents. Wexford created a number of chances early on with Mark Doyle and Luke Byrne both working well on the wings and creating chances for the away side, the strike force were unable however to convert as they found an excellent New Ross goalkeeper in defiant form. Wexford were struggling to find their feet as New Ross wouldn’t allow them to play their regular game and looked dangerous on the break.
Luke Byrne struck the post with a well placed shot but the game soon turned on its head. A long ball from the New Ross keeper wasn’t properly cleared at the back and New Ross took the lead with a stunning strike from 30 yards out to lead at the break. Wexford CBS made some changes and began the second half in determined fashion and completely dominated the game while going in search of an equaliser, the boker boys put the New Ross defence and keeper under enormous pressure but were thwarted by a magnificent performance from the New Ross keeper who was in no mood to be beaten. CBS changed formation to a 3-4-3 with Richie Kearney moving up front and the continued pressure was beginning to tell on a tiring New Ross team. The Wexford side finally managed to find the back of the New Ross net with Jessie Farrell neatly finishing after good work from Eoin MacDonald and Mark Doyle created the opening. Neither side managed to really test the opposition goal before the final whistle, but Wexford CBS were relieved to salvage what could prove to be an important point but they could have gotten so much more.
Best on the day for CBS were Richie Kearney, Mark Doyle, Cian Doyle and Jessie Farrell.
